What is Being Mindful?

Being mindful means being attentive.

During our course we bring your attention to the physical and mental processes of pregnancy and birth. We believe that with a particular attention to the mind body connection you can learn to trust your body and its natural abilities. We explain how the mind works and how through positive thinking reinforced through gentle, guided relaxations you can prepare yourselves for a positive birth experience.

Being mindful is what we do if we attend a yoga class where we develop a body awareness and at the end of the session relax with a guided meditation. Our course fits nicely with this practice but we go much further with interactive discussions and carefully researched techniques. We aim to instill in you a deep sense of stability in your own birthing capability. You and your birthing partner will become so familiar with the birthing mother's state of mind that you will be able to communicate using minimal verbal communication.

We will ask that you engage with the spirit of the course by putting in lots of practice of your own at home. You will be conditioning yourself to enter into a relaxed state in which you feel so engaged with the moment that you are able to tune out distractions, go within and give your body the focus required to birth intuitively.

On the day of birth you will labour with awareness. You will use your mindful breathing to take yourself into a calm state where you expend minimal energy. You will feel alert but intensely focussed on the powerful act of labour. Your birthing muscles will work as effectively as possible, in the presence of the body's 'happy' hormones and optimal oxygenation.

The practice of being mindful will have allowed you to release any anxiteies and let go. And so it is with mindful awareness, focus and profound joy that you will feel ready to open up completely for the birth of your baby.

We believe that your birth as a parent can be greatly enhanced with your mindful birth preparation. Helping nurture your bond with your child and each other and understanding the power of those moments when you look deep into your child's eyes. You capture the important moments of intense love in the amazing days, weeks and months while the domestic chores and other distractions fade off your radar!

You won't be the parent that says 'blink and you miss it' or relies too heavily on the camera to capture the moments.
