If you have followed our Mindful Birth preparation course you will find these materials a useful supplement to your mindful practise. These materials also focus on your birth as a parent and enable and continuation of the techniques. All our guided relaxations offer excellent value and are instantly downloadable as MP3 files to your screen wherever you are in the world.

Thanks Eva for your recent comment:
"I got the mp3's and put them on my Ipod. Very relaxing! I must compliment you for the quality of the recordings. Very soothing voice and nice music".

ISH and AUM breathes
At the start of our relaxations we guide you in taking three 'ish' breathes and an 'aum'. We borrow this type of breathing from yoga or meditation practices. One definition of meditation is "the highest state" where 1) the senses are stilled 2) the mind is at rest, 3) the intellect wavers not. We use these breaths as a way of lengthening the breath to relax us further, to help tune out distraction and tune into our own body and mind. Perhaps most importantly we feel it is important that women feel able to make helpful sounds during labour. It can seem strange to add sound to our breathing but during labour, and especially at the time of the birth, this is a primal instinct that it is useful to tap into.

The visualisations are designed to allow you to focus on particular images during the contractions (or "surges") of your labour. This is a useful recap for anyone who has followed our course and powerful for anyone who has not had the opportunity to follow our course but feels confident with the use of meditation techniques.
